Don't you
just hate maintenance?
Perhaps you
haven't reached the point in your online
business where maintenance becomes a real chore.
Perhaps you're
lucky enough to be in the "I'm
building this super-duper slick?-I'm-talking-oilspill
website which is going to revolutionise the meaning
of life".
Well, be careful.
Building a
new website from a great new idea is a
lot of fun.
But if you're
like me, you have a few new website
ideas each week.
It's almost
impossible to resist the urge to create
your new dream website.
But, must,
resist!
Why?
Because each
site you create will need maintenance.
Even if it's
only changing the "copyright 1997" to
something closer to the current year ;-)
Seriously,
though, you do need to consider how many
sites you can personally maintain, or how to offload
the site or its maintenance to someone else.
I think you'll
nearly always be better off adding new
content to your existing site and keeping it bang up
to date than launching a new site.
My guess is
that the spiders who visit sites
surprisingly often from the search engines can tell
how up to date the site is...and ten dusty sites will
do a lot worse than one well maintained up-to-date
useful website.
