In the ever-escalating
spam war, this is one of the
new weapons people are using...super-filters.
The guy who sent me
that email presumably received
something from me...but I didn't appear on his "accept
emails from" list...so it was bounced back to me to
check I was a genuine sender.
[it is possible that
this email was sent from a spammer
trying to trick me into validating my email address by
clicking on the link...so I didn't]
That guy was using
fairly extreme filtering (only
accepting email from people he knows).
But there are other
forms of filtering such as
instantly deleting emails containing certain words or
phrases and filtering performed by your Internet Service
Provider on your behalf (did you know?).
Legitimate marketers
need to be aware of the "red flag"
words and phrases so that you can avoid triggering these
spam filters.
It may well pay off
to check your emails for any
potential red flags before sending them...especially if
it's an important email.
