Ideas/Section-9
We've all seen those
ads that claim you can purchase surplus property from the U.S. Government
for unusually cheap prices. But did they tell you the jeep could
be driven? Or did you just "assume" that to be the case?
The truth of the matter is that all M151 series vehicles, including
jeeps, are unsafe for public highway use. These vehicles are made
unusable by removing major components and destroying the unitized
body so it cannot be rebuilt.
And where did I find out this information? From the U.S. Government
itself. In fact -- they publish the truth in their publication,
"How to Buy Surplus Personal Property From the United States
Department of Defense." (You can get your own free copy by
writing to: Defense Reutilization and Marketing Service, National
Sales Office, P.O. Box 6275 DDRC, 2163 Airways Boulevard, Memphis
TN 38114.
But Don't Fret . . .
You can now stop patronizing those fraudulent
companies that make claims to put you in direct contact with thousands
of agencies that will give you free vacations, free cars, free money
and free gifts. Just contact the U.S. Government and see for yourself.
Their information is free and the most accurate source in the world!
In fact -- if you write and request the booklet I recommended above,
you will automatically get a detailed listing of all the surplus
products you can purchase, as well as their class number. Simply
circle the class numbers on the accompanying form that you would
be interested in purchasing and send it back. You'll automatically
be eligible to start bidding on these products. It's that simple!
And if you are interested in purchasing government-owned real estate
and surplus property generated by most federal agencies, contact
the GSA office nearest you. (A complete list is included in the
booklet I mentioned earlier.)
Additionally, you can get your name on other lists, such as the
European National Bidders List, by contacting Defense Reutiliazation
and Marketing Region - Europe, Europe Division Office, Lindsey A.S.,
Unit 4490, APO AE 09196, phone 0611-82-3505.
Or, the Pacific National Bidders List by contacting Pacific Division
Office, Building 12, Camp H.M., Smith HI 96861-5010, phone 808-477-1227.
Facts You Should Know
* Arms, ammunition, combatant aricraft,
armored combatant vehicles and other military-type items are not
sold in original form to the general public. They are demilitarized
to preclude reconditioning for further military use. Demilitarization
normally leaves items with no value except for basic material content,
such as scrap.
* To purchase hazardous property, the
buyer must meet any local, state or federal regulations.
* Aircraft carriers, battleships, cruisers,
frigates, patrol combatants, submarines and ships which are converted
from any of these configurations are sold for scrapping purposes.
Ships other than those cited above are sold as usable items.
* Combat aircraft, fighters, bombers and
certain trainers must be demilitarized and sold for recovery of
basic material content, parts and components. Also -- purchasers
of aircraft must obtain a Federal Aviation Administration airworthiness
certificate or show that the aircraft conforms to an existing civilian
model which has a similar FAA certificate.
Summary
The only thing holding you back from dealing
directly with the U.S. Government is the rumors you have heard in
the past. Sure -- there are some specific rules you have to adhere
to. However, these rules are made to protect people from items falling
in the wrong hands. If your reasons for purchasing surplus property
are legitimate, the U.S. Government may be the best source to contact.
